The mission of our program is to provide students with meaningful music experiences so that they may establish a solid and permanent relationship with music. The basic elements – melody, rhythm, form, tone color, harmony, and interpretation – provide a process for the students to acquire music literacy. Expression of emotions and feelings is communicated through music. Through the musical experiences of creating, performing, reading, writing, singing, playing, and listening, students will develop an appreciation for music. The music experience will also provide students with a sense of their own heritage (history and culture) and enable them to develop an awareness and acceptance of other cultures. The music experience fosters success. In addition to developing leisure time pursuits, the music experience facilitates and enriches the teaching of other curricular subjects, and encourages exploration of vocational opportunities.
