Mission
The Sparta High School mathematics department believes every student can be successful at learning mathematics and should be able to reason and communicate proficiently in mathematics. A strong background in mathematics prepares students for a variety of future occupations, and a strong partnership between home and school helps students succeed in mathematics.

Competencies
1. Students will be able to apply basic facts, formulas, and operations.

2. Students will be able to apply problem-solving skills:

    a. Define problems mathematically

    b.  Choose appropriate methods to solve problems

    c.  Demonstrate ability to solve problems accurately

    d.  Evaluate the reasonableness of an answer

    e.  Explain process in written or oral form

3. Students will be able to demonstrate appropriate measuring strategies.

7. Students will be able to utilize spatial reasoning.
